A deep 5-day, 4-night Chongqing itinerary that brings together natural wonders, a World Heritage site, Miao ethnic culture, river cruising and relaxed dining — and feels like boarding a time machine: from the pristine karst wilderness of Wulong, through Miao folk traditions and thousand-year-old Buddhist grottoes, and finally back to the glittering modern skyline of Chongqing. It begins with an airport or rail station pick-up; after checking in on day one you have the rest of the day free to ease into the Mountain City. Day two heads for Wulong to explore the Three Natural Bridges and ride the little train up Xiannv Mountain. Day three visits the Miao settlement of Jiuli City, cruises the Wujiang Gallery, then unwinds with a spa session and buffet at Tianlan Guangli. Day four travels to Dazu for the Baoding and Beishan rock carvings, including a guided commentary at Baoding, a stroll through Changzhou Old Town and a Qingyu banquet. Day five leaves the morning free before your transfer to the airport or station.
The pace is well balanced throughout: the grandeur of karst landscapes, the elegance of the Wujiang Gallery, the cultural weight of the Dazu carvings and the distinctive charm of Miao folk traditions, closing with Chongqing’s contemporary city lights. Ideal for families, couples, friends and first-time visitors who want a genuine in-depth Chongqing experience.
01
Visit the most solemn ancient Buddhist carvings
One of China's eight oldest grotto complexes, dominated by Song-dynasty figures that blend Confucian, Buddhist and Daoist traditions. Unlike the monumental austerity of other grottoes, the subjects here stay close to everyday life, and the carving is fine, vivid and full of human warmth. Walking the two core areas at Baoding Mountain and Beishan, tens of thousands of figures carpet the cliff face — from the reclining Buddha to the Thousand-Hand Guanyin — so delicately worked and so expressive that the site is known as the last monument of Chinese grotto art.
02
China's most celebrated karst landscape
The Three Natural Bridges in Wulong, Chongqing, are a World Natural Heritage site famous for the karst spectacle of three bridges spanning two sinkholes. The sinkholes feel like vast wells opening onto the sky, and the location appeared in Transformers: Age of Extinction. Ride the shuttle down to the floor of the basin, where cliffs shoot straight up overhead and an ancient post station used as a filming location sits beneath you, with the Tianlong, Qinglong and Heilong bridges arching across. Standing at the bottom and looking up, you genuinely understand the weight of the word "sinkhole".
03
A stroll through a Chinese Eden
Xiannv Mountain in Wulong, Chongqing, is part of the World Natural Heritage site and is known as the Switzerland of the East, with broad grasslands and dense forest on the high plateau. Cattle and sheep wander the slopes; summers are cool and winters bring snow. Ride the little train across the grassland beneath blue skies and white clouds. Beat the heat in summer, enjoy the snow in winter — a comfortable high-altitude escape in every season.
04
Experience the traditions of an ethnic minority
The largest Miao architectural complex in China and a sacred site of Miao culture. Share a long-table banquet with the warm and hospitable Miao hosts, drink the ceremonial gate wine and watch Miao song and dance. Gate wine, long-table feasts and lusheng music greet you all the way in, with no threshold on Miao hospitality. Wander slowly between the drum tower and the wind-and-rain bridge, and take a close look at Miao architecture and costume patterns.
05
Cruise the emerald-green Wujiang Gallery
In the karst gorge, sheer peaks stand on both banks and the river runs green as jade — hence the name "a thousand li of Wujiang, a hundred li of gallery". Board a cruise boat and drift downstream as one peak after another unfolds and the emerald water mirrors the mountains. The phrase is not an empty flourish; it is scenery that flows past your eyes for the entire voyage.
06
Attend an ancient imperial court banquet
Built around Ming-dynasty court ritual and blended with Bayu culture. Dishes arrive in step with the performance: you taste a refined banquet infused with Chongqing flavours while watching classical music and dance, an immersive encounter with a thousand years of Bayu elegance and a strong sense of ceremony. Enter the banquet hall, change into hanfu and take your seat as the courses follow the show — fine dining, classical performance and photo-worthy atmosphere all at once.
07
Unwind with the city's most relaxing Chinese spa
An immersive wellness club in a large standalone building, with private themed rooms and skilled therapists. Fatigue from a day of mountains and rivers melts away here, complemented by a star-rated buffet — spa and dining handled in one stop, and a genuinely worthwhile luxury pause in the middle of your trip.
Four-star equivalent rooms throughout, clean and well equipped. Different room types can be arranged on request, and every room includes daily breakfast.
