About Chongqing

Chongqing is a vertical mountain city where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet — monorails run through buildings, roads appear on the eighth floor, and Hongyadong’s stilt houses climb the cliff in tiers of light. It is also where Yangtze cruises begin: four to five days downstream through the Three Gorges to Yichang. Beyond the city, Wulong’s Three Natural Bridges and the Dazu Rock Carvings lie within a few hours’ drive, with Youyang and Fuling worth an extra day each. Hotpot and the two-river night cruise are its signature experiences — choose a hotpot place tucked inside a residential block, and book the cruise after 6:30 pm to catch both sunset and the lights. Jiangbei International Airport links major cities, and high-speed rail reaches Chengdu in 90 minutes, making Chongqing the natural first stop of a Sichuan-Chongqing trip. Spring and autumn are best; allow at least three days.
