About Yanbian
Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture sits in eastern Jilin, with Yanji as its capital. Shop signs run in Chinese and Korean side by side, and every meal starts with side dishes and rice wine; you can rent traditional dress at the Korean Folk Village, and buy kimchi, rice sausage and dried pollack by weight at the West Market. Yanji is also the gateway to the north slope of Changbai Mountain — Erdaobaihe is just over two hours south, which makes it the natural base for a winter climb to the frozen Heaven Lake.
