About Shanghai

Shanghai is China’s largest city and the first stop for most international flights into the country. The Huangpu River divides it in two: on the west bank the Bund’s mile-long promenade is lined with fifty-two buildings, a walkable history of modern architecture; on the east bank Lujiazui’s Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Tower pierce the sky. A river cruise, watching both banks light up at once, is the classic introduction — sail after 7 pm for the full display. The old town and the former French Concession reveal a slower rhythm, from Yuyuan Garden’s zigzag bridge to the plane trees and lanes of Wukang Road. Pudong and Hongqiao airports connect the world, with maglev and Metro Line 2 linking both to the centre. Allow two to three days, adding Suzhou, Wuzhen or Disneyland as a day trip.
