About Mount Wuyi
Wuyishan straddles the border of Fujian and Jiangxi and holds both World Natural and World Cultural Heritage status. Red sandstone has been carved by water into thirty-six peaks and ninety-nine crags, and the Nine-Bend Stream coils through them nine times, giving the landscape its classic rhythm of turning mountains and embracing water. The signature experience is a ninety-minute bamboo raft from Xingcun pier — rafts are limited daily, so book ahead — with Jade Maiden Peak at the second bend the defining view. Tianyou Peak overlooks the whole stream, and the Dahongpao scenic area holds the original tea bushes and terraces; in the evening the Impression Dahongpao riverside show is worth booking. This is also the homeland of rock tea, and a bag of Zhengyan Rougui or Shuixian makes a fine souvenir. Allow two to three days.
