Sanya sits at the southern tip of Hainan Island. Sitting at eighteen degrees north, it has no winter at all — January averages above 20°C — which is why it is called the Hawaii of the East. Yalong Bay has the clearest water and finest sand for pure resort time; Haitang Bay has the newest hotels and the duty-free mall; Dadonghai is closest to town and best for evening seafood by the beach. Wuzhizhou and Fenjiezhou islands are the top choices for snorkelling, with diving, jet skis and sea fishing arranged the same day. Phoenix International Airport flies to major Chinese cities and the island-loop rail links Sanya with Haikou and Wanning, so no long transfers are needed — ideal with children or grandparents. Chinese New Year and National Day are the price peaks; November or March is better value. Allow four to five days.
